A Beginner's Guide to Using Apple Podcasts on an iPhone

In this guide, we'll show you how to use Apple Podcasts on your iPhone, from finding and subscribing to your favorite shows to listening and managing your subscriptions.

The first step in using Apple Podcasts on an iPhone is to make sure that the app is downloaded and installed on your device. If you’re using an iPhone with iOS 14 or later, the Podcasts app should already be installed on your device. If not, you can download it for free from the App Store.

1) Open the Podcasts app on your iPhone

2) Tap the "Search" tab in the bottom right corner

3) Use the search bar to find specific podcasts or browse popular shows by tapping on "Top Charts", "Categories", or "Collections"

4) Once you've found a podcast you're interested in, tap on the show's title to open its page.

Subscribing to Podcasts. 

1) On the podcast's page, tap the "Subscribe" button to receive new episodes automatically

2) To unsubscribe, tap on the "Library" tab in the bottom left corner and swipe left on the podcast you want to unsubscribe from, then tap "Unsubscribe"

3) To manage your subscriptions, tap on the "Library" tab and use the "Edit" button in the top right corner to reorder, hide, or unsubscribe from shows

Once you’ve subscribed to some podcasts, you can start listening to them. To do this, tap the “Library” button in the bottom left corner of the app. Here, you can see all of the podcasts you’ve subscribed to, as well as any episodes you’ve downloaded for offline listening.

1) To listen to a podcast episode, tap on the show's title in the "Library" tab or "Episodes" page

2) Use the playback controls to play, pause, and skip through the episode. 

3) To speed up or slow down the playback, tap on the "1x" button and select a new speed. 

While you’re listening to a podcast, you can use the controls at the bottom of the screen to pause, fast-forward, or rewind. You can also tap the “More” button for more options, such as sharing the episode or adding it to a playlist.

Downloading Episodes

1) To download an episode for offline listening, tap the "More" button (represented by three dots) next to the episode title

2) Tap "Download" to download the episode to your device

3) To view downloaded episodes, tap on the "Library" tab and select "Downloaded Episodes"

1) To create a playlist of episodes, tap on the "Library" tab and select "Playlists"

2) Tap the "New Playlist" button and name your playlist

3) To add episodes to your playlist, tap on the "More" button next to the episode title and select "Add to a Playlist"

Marking Episodes as Played

1) To mark an episode as played, tap on the "More" button next to the episode title and select "Mark as Played"

2) To mark all episodes in a show as played, tap on the "More" button on the show's page and select "Mark All as Played"

3) You can change the playback speed of a podcast episode to suit your listening preference

4) To customize the app, tap the “More” button in the bottom right corner and select “Settings”. Here, you can change the playback speed, turn on automatic downloads, and create playlists.
